Joan Munro – Improvement and Development Agency

“I’m Joan Munro, the National Advisor for Workforce Strategy at the Improvement and Development Agency. I commissioned Ten Horizon to produce an audio and video podcast about our integrated workforce strategy project to help bring the project alive. I also worked with Ten Horizon on the podcasts for the local government workforce strategy that the Local Government Employers commissioned. Ten Horizon were delightful to work with and proactive – they made everything painless… they did a lot of the hard work and made it fun and enjoyable… they were really keen to please us, so it was an excellent experience. I would completely recommend Ten Horizon, I think they’re excellent value for money and delightful people to do business with.”

Inauguration – were you new or old media?

Following on the President Obama theme from my last post – I read with interest this article by Rory Cellan-Jones on the BBC News’s technology blog dot.life entitled ‘Inauguration – were you old or new media?’ The article outlines Rory’s attempts to experience the inauguration in as many ways as possible using both new and old media.

Among other things, he watched the BBC’s TV coverage, surfed numerous news websites, followed tweets on Twitter, got social with Facebook’s link up with CNN and even downloaded the new iPhone application from Ustream to watch a live stream of the AP coverage. To find out what Rory’s experience’s were like and how new and old media performed read the article here.

Also, remember to check out dot.life on a regular basis – I think it’s one of the BBC’s best blogs… and they have quite a few to choose from that you can find at the BBC Blog Network.

Obama's Change.gov website demonstrates how to use Social Media effectively

So tomorrow all eyes will be on Washington D.C. and the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of The United States of America.

Since that epic day in early November 2008, when the Senator from Illinois won his momentous victory – thanks in no small part to his campaign team’s effective and innovative social media strategy – the President Elect has continued to use blogs, podcasts, video, audio, social networking and numerous other Web 2.0 tools to connect with the American people (and the rest of the World).

During the two month transition period, Obama’s Change.gov website has become a benchmark for politicians, national and local of all persuasions, on how to use social media to engage an electorate. Importantly, I think it also provides a useful reference point for businesses and organisations (of all shapes and sizes) who want to understand how to leverage Web 2.0 tools.

My understanding is that Change.gov will close as the inauguration takes place and the transition comes to and end. Whitehouse.gov will then take over as the key communications hub for President Obama and his team, incorporating all the new media tools used so effectively on Change.gov – I for one will be watching with interest to see how it develops.

Check out www.change.gov while you still can, or if you’re reading this after 20th January 2009 visit www.whitehouse.gov

Bono to podcast his New York Times column

U2 front man Bono is to become a regular columnist for The New York Times. The 48-year-old singer’s first column entitled ‘Notes From the Chairman’, for which he also recorded an audio podcast, appeared yesterday.

According to the paper, Bono’s column will cover a diverse range of topics and will regularly appear in both print and podcast form.

It’s interesting to see such a major media brand integrating podcasts further and further into it’s online publications.

Check out the column and listen to the podcast here.

Mike Owen – Bury Council

“I’m Mike Owen, Director of Finance and E-Government at Bury Council. We asked Ten Horizon to make us a video podcast to explain key aspects of our Ethical Governance Framework… aimed at raising awareness amongst council members, members of staff and also the public. The best thing about working with Ten Horizon was that it was a pleasure… they made the whole process far less daunting that we thought it would be and they made it fun! I’d happily recommend Ten Horizon… they were very professional, very helpful and great to do business with. At the end of the day they left us with a brilliant end product that we’ll be able to make use of for other projects and they did all of this at a price that I consider to be good value for money.”
